When is the trail open?

The Buffalo Valley Rail Trail is open from dawn to dusk year-round.

How long is the trail?

The trail is 10.28 miles long.

Do I need to stop at the posted stop signs while on my bike?

YES. When mounted, bicycles are classified as vehicles by state law and therefore must adhere to all traffic control devices.

Can I bring my dog on the trail?

Pets are permitted on the trail as long as you keep them on a leash and clean up after them.

Can I ride electric scooters, bikes, or wheelchairs on the trail?

Motorized vehicles are prohibited on the trail with the exception of Class 1 e-bikes and powered wheelchairs/PMD.

Can I cross-country ski on the trail?

Yes!

Can I ride a horse on the trail?

No. The trail surface is not designed for equestrian use.

Who operates the trail?

The Buffalo Valley Rail Trail is owned and operated by the Union County Trail Authority.

How is the trail paid for?

The majority of funding for the BVRT is through a grant from the Susquehanna Valley Visitors Bureau.

When does the Union County Trail Authority Board meet?

The UCTA Board regularly meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at 9 AM at the Union County Government Center on N. 15th Street in Lewisburg. All meetings are open to the public.

Where do I report a problem with the trail?

Issues, questions, and concerns about the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail can be submitted to unioncountytrails@gmail.com, on our Facebook page, or by contacting the Trail Manager at (570) 524-3878.

Where can I find a list of rules and regulations for the trail?

I am a landowner next to the trail, who do I talk to about an issue/question?

There has been an accident/incident on the trail, who do I contact?

 In an emergency contact 911, in non-emergency situations contact the Trail Manager @ (570) 524-3878.

Can I host an event on the trail?

Information of hosting an event on the trail can be obtained by contacting the Trail manager (or downloading an Event application HERE).

Can I rent the Vicksburg pavilion?

Due to the size of the parking area, the pavilion is not available for rent. 

When will the trail cross Route 15?

A crossing at U.S. Route 15 is being evaluated.

Why are the restrooms closed in Mifflinburg?

Unfortunately, the repeated vandalism of the facility forced the decision to close the restrooms. An ADA portable restroom is on-site.

When will you mow/trim/weed the trail?

Vegetation management is on an as-needed basis and usually occurs 2-3 times per year.

Can I adopt a portion of the trail?

How do I make a donation?
